Description of Service
This service provides support for all workplace injuries or illnesses and all safety incidents that occur while engaged in activities at the university or on behalf of the university.
This service includes:
- Review and assess the incident for level of risk and notify appropriate personnel.
- Lead investigations to determine the root cause(s) of an incident and identify controls and corrective actions to be implemented to prevent recurrence.
- Manage the Saskatchewan Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) claims process and liaise with multiple stakeholders to ensure the incident documentation is properly communicated.
- Support leaders to implement changes in the workplace and assist with the USask return-to-work program.
Access
All incidents that occur at the university must be reported to Safety Resources as soon as possible. Individuals may be contacted should any additional documentation be required.
- Employees must report the incident to their supervisor and complete the online Report an Incident form (login required).
- Students and the public must complete the Report an Incident PDF form and email/fax it to Safety Resources. Please note: only USask employees are eligible for compensation through the WCB.

Incident reporting is available online 24/7 along with emailing the safety resources general email with general questions. Alternatively, in an emergency or after hours call 306-966-5555 and Protective Services would be able to support/direct from there.

Core Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday to Friday
After Hours: After hours call 306-966-5555 and Protective Services will be able to support/direct from there.
Service Standards
- The Safety Resources team recognizes the complexity of these events and is dedicated to providing exceptional service throughout the claims management process.
- Supervisors shall ensure that workers under their supervision comply with The Act and Regulations. Supervisors are responsible for providing safe work conditions and prevention strategies for recurrence.
- The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety requires the university to report any Dangerous Occurrences as outlined in the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
Service Exclusions, Limitations, and Restrictions
- This service is dedicated for workplace injury or illness.
- Only eligible university positions are authorized for compensation through the WCB.
- Faculty are not covered under WCB as indicated in The Workers’ Compensation Miscellaneous Regulations. They have coverage for lost time as part of their collective agreement.
- Students can contact the USSU for further information on their coverage.
Service Charges
- The Workers’ Compensation Board’s costs are funded entirely by premiums paid by employers.
