Description of Service

This service provides researchers with access to consulting expertise across a variety of specialties and disciplines to address complex technology need for research and support for digitally-enabled research.

The service includes:

  • Support for Research Data Management (RDM) planning (i.e. curation, access, discoverability, and preservation).
  • Access to and assistance with research data storage, including DataStore, DataShare and Compute Canada/WestGrid storage resources, and support for secure computing for research.
  • Support for Research Data Security for the use of sensitive data in research including encryption, secure storage, transport, and computing, as well as privacy, personal health information (PHI), and The Health Information Protection Act (HIPA).
  • Assistance with effectively using visualization hardware and software, including 3D technology.
  • Consultation and support for developing grant applications to ensure IT components of grants are appropriately spec’d for their purposes and appropriately aligned to industry best practices.
  • Consultation to help select plan, design, build and maintain computer infrastructure for research to support research activities.
  • Support with different computational approaches, including programming, algorithms, parallel processing, batching, and other computational techniques and methods.

Service Standards


Service Exclusions, Limitations, and Restrictions

  • It may not be possible to fulfill all research support requests.
  • ICT reserves the right to over-allocate storage in DataStore. This may lead to temporary limitations and additional space being unavailable.

Service Charges

  • There are generally no charges associated with the research support service, but some charges may be associated with data storage. See the DataStore terms of service for pricing.
