By using the Academic Video Service University of Saskatchewan (“U of S”) employees and students agree to the following terms:

  1. Only currently active U of S employees and students may access the Academic Video Service.
  2. Students may only view applicable video content and, by invitation of an instructor, create and submit video content as assignments.
  3. Classroom recordings (lecture captures) are specific to course and section, and will be distributed to students via their Blackboard course.
  4. Employees and students will use the Academic Video Service for U of S educational, research or business purposes only.  Use of the Academic Video Service for personal or commercial use is prohibited.  Employees and students will not create copies or derivative works of, or decompile, reverse engineer, translate or disassemble the Academic Video Service, in whole or in part.
  5. Employees and students will not, without consent, record, upload and/or distribute content considered to be other people’s “personal information” under The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Saskatchewan) or similar personally identifiable information under applicable privacy laws.  Similarly, employees and students are responsible for protecting their own personal information and similar personally identifiable information when recording, uploading and/or distributing their own content through the Academic Video Service.
  6. Without express and freely given consent from the relevant parties, U of S employees and students will not:
    • track student views;
    • post personally-identifiable student assignments for the class;
    • record the public; or
    • repurpose and/or rebroadcast Academic Video Service videos with students in them; or
    • repurpose and/or rebroadcast the Academic Video Service of others.
  7. Employees and students will not, under any circumstances, record, upload and/or distribute content considered to be “personal health information” under The Health Information Protection Act (Saskatchewan).
  8. Employees and students will not share their passwords to use the Academic Video Services with any other party.
  9. Employees and students acknowledge the Academic Video Service is provided by Panopto, the contracted service provider to the U of S, and further acknowledge the Academic Video Service and its content may be accessed and used only by Panopto authorized persons, for lawful and legitimate purposes. 
  10. Employees and students acknowledge and agree to service terms for Archives of Stored Recordings  and agree to take appropriate action to preserve recording(s), as defined in section “Archives of Stored Recordings” below.
  11. The U of S reserves the right to review and/or monitor Academic Video Service system transactions for compliance with U of S policies and/or applicable law.  Upon reasonable cause, the U of S may disclose such transactions to authorized persons for official purposes, including criminal and other investigations, and permit the monitoring of system transactions by law enforcement agencies.
  12. Employees and students using the Academic Video Service, whether viewing, recording, uploading, distributing content or otherwise, will at all times comply with all applicable laws and U of S Policies, as amended from time to time, including, but not limited to:
  13. Employees and students will accept decisions made by and directions of the Academic Video Service administrator to maintain compliance with U of S policies, applicable law, and/or agreements with the Academic Video Service provider.
  14. Employees and students acknowledge lectures, class sessions, supplemental recordings, etc. that are conducted via the Academic Video Service are subject to the same intellectual property considerations as other content generated at the U of S.  Employees and students are responsible for ensuring access to the Academic Video Service is primarily limited to the users in a Blackboard course.   Employees and students will at all times comply with all applicable laws and U of S policies regarding intellectual property including, but not limited to:

Intellectual Property and Copyright

  1.  All recordings hosted on this system may be used by the session owners for reuse later in accordance with these terms of service.
  2. Use of the Panopto video platform outside of the Academic Video Service will be in accordance with these terms of service, and may be subject to additional terms of service for the specified scenario. 

Archives of Stored Recordings

Panopto is offered as a Software as a Service (Cloud) offering hosted in Panopto’s European data centre. System availability is governed under the master service agreement with the vendor.

Classroom Recordings:

  1. Standard class lecture recordings will be stored and retained on Panopto for at least one full term past the original recording date.  For instance, a recording made in fall of 2017 will be retained until the end of the spring 2018 term.   

ICT will consider accommodation of special cases to address program specific requirements.
