Description of Service

This service provides faculty, staff, and researchers with access to and support for space requests and changes in use relating to university buildings, land, leased spaces, and assets.

This service applies to:

  • Making modifications to spaces such as adding or removing modular/cubical walls.
  • Changing the use of a room (e.g. from a meeting room into and office, adding more people to a room, etc.).
  • Requesting new or needing additional space (including indoor, outdoor, and off campus).
  • Making signification changes to the furniture in the space (e.g. large volumes, complete renewal).
  • Sites / locations for signage, fences, farm buildings, storage, and other installations.

This service includes:

  • Assessing the request for complexity, risk, space constraints, infrastructure feasibility, and financial feasibility.
  • Conducting an assessment electrical, HVAC, air flow, and other utility needs to prevent future problems in the space.
  • Assessing safety issues (e.g. asbestos) and code requirements of the change of use.
  • Identifying areas of concern in the request.
  • Providing a rough order of magnitude estimate for the cost of the change of use.
  • Checking to see if the space is already slated for renovations/renewal or otherwise committed to prevent unnecessary work.

Access

Faculty, staff, and researchers should submit requests in advance for renovations, alterations, and changes in use to improve scheduling and prompt service/reduce wait times.

Facilities Strategic Business Advisors (SBAs) (login required) are the primary contact for space requests and changes of use support. If a college or unit does not have a Facilities SBA, then the first point of contact should be the Strategic Program Office.
