Description of Service

This service provides benefits and wellness supports to faculty, staff, and their eligible dependants, to help create an environment that supports overall physical and mental well-being of employees. Depending on the employee group, benefit coverage may include health, dental, flex spending, life insurance, and pension as applicable.

This service includes:

  • Providing new employee benefits sessions.
  • Assisting with initial enrolment.
  • Supporting the annual allocation process for the Health Spending and Personal Spending Accounts.
  • Assisting with plan interpretation.
  • Providing benefit-related leave support (e.g. benefits during leaves).
  • Changing or updating beneficiaries.

Wellness Services are also available for employees.


Access

Faculty and staff can request benefit claims support, such as information directly related to their benefits, claims submitted, and status of their claim, from the Sun Life Customer Call Centre:

  • Phone: 1-800-361-6212 during the work week from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm EST.
  • Online: Connect online through the MySunLife account by logging in with their access ID and password.

Faculty and staff can request general benefits support from ConnectionPoint using the following methods:

Service Standards

  • The benefit period is the twelve month calendar year, January 1 to December 31.
  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs) have been added to select ConnectionPoint eForms. Processing start dates for eForms are available in the ConnectionPoint channel in PAWS.

Service Exclusions, Limitations, and Restrictions

  • Benefits coverage and eligibility differ for the various employment groups and are outlined in the university’s employment agreements. Eligibility to participate in benefit plans is based on your job status and/or the length of appointment.
  • Benefit coverage is subject to certain benefit maximums, depending on the plan and the expense type in question. This may include limits on the dollar amount payable, the duration of or the number of visits.
  • If you want to add an over-age dependent as a beneficiary while they attend university, you need to contact SunLife directly. Review the over-age dependent article in the knowledge base (login required) before contacting SunLife.

Service Charges

  • Optional benefits have employee-paid premiums that are deducted from their payroll.
